Penygroes is a village in Gwynedd, North Wales. It is 6.5 miles from Caernarfon town, 13 miles from Llanberis, 13 miles from Porthmadog, and 15 miles from Wales' oldest city, Bangor. It is a central location for many of the area’s main attractions. Penygroes lies at the heart of the former slate quarrying Dyffryn Nantlle, and it has one of the highest percentage of Welsh speakers in the country, bordering on the Snowdonia National Park.
There are train stations in Bangor and Porthmadog, less than half hour away, with the T2 bus connecting Penygroes and the towns, as well as Caernarfon, 15 minutes away.
